Our nursery setting is inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach to nursery education. Reggio Emilia is an area in Northern Italy, which is recognised as having some of the best practice in Early Years Education in the world.  The nursery curriculum is based on the ideas and initiatives born out of the children’s own interests.  We enable our children to become creative thinkers and celebrate their individuality, by capturing those interests through close observational methods.  The Key Person leading each group of children, develops curriculum planning to meet children’s interests, thereby extending their knowledge base further and supporting them in gaining new knowledge and appropriate skills.

Each Key Group creates a unique collection of work, encompassing all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage programme.  For example, one group has recently been particularly interested in building and construction, so the children were taken out, in the turtle bus, to a local building site (with mini hard hats and visibility vests included!).  Children recorded what they saw, using clip boards and drawings and also by using the camera to take photos.  This led to changes in the nursery’s outdoor space, to include a construction area, which the children helped to design and create.
